Niceman Silk Mills (NSM) has an inventory of more than 1500 designs, with 200 to 250 fresh designs added to the collection every month. The assorted collection of fabrics at NSM is a combination of three essential parameters:
-
Yarn Blend/ Thread Count/ Ply:
Finish fabrics at NSM are made of various yarn and yarn blends like natural cotton, cotton slub, linen and man-made fibers like polyester, polyester-cotton, viscose, fancy linen blends etc. Usage of different yarns in construction of a fabric is crucial to provide attractiveness, strength and maintain the cost of finish fabric.
NSM uses 20s to 140s yarn counts in its fabrics. Keeping all the other parameters same (weave, ply, pattern, and type of yarn), higher thread count means a smoother, silkier, more expensive fabric.
Ply is a measure of the number of yarns that are twisted together to make a single thread. Fabrics woven at NSM are either two-ply or single ply. Two-ply means that two yarns are twisted together to make a single thread that is then woven into the fabric.
-
Construction/ Weave:
The construction of a fabric is measured by counting the number of threads contained in one square inch of fabric or one square centimeter, including both the length (warp/EPI) and width (weft/PPI) threads. The thread count is the number of threads counted along two sides (up and across) of the square inch, added together. Ends per inch (EPI or e.p.i.) is the number of warp threads per inch of woven fabric and picks per inch ( PPI or p.p.i.) is the number of weft threads per inch of woven fabric. In general, higher the ends per inch and picks per inch, finer is the fabric.
Weaves define the look, feel and texture of a fabric. At NSM, fabrics are woven in most of the popular and contemporary weaves. It includes an array of poplin, twill, satin, chambray, oxford, royal oxford, pinpoint oxford, and broadcloth weaves.
-
Designing/ Patterning:
Designing holds crucial importance and influence on the overall textile manufacturing process, at NSM. With a strong team consisting of experienced in-house and consultant designers, each design goes through atleast 5-6 stages of selection and filtration, before it is finalised. The collection consists of a wide range of designs like checks, stripes, satins, gingham checks, tartans, fil-a-fil, plain charts, dobbies, panels (large unique pattern covering the whole shirt with maximum 4-5 repeats throughout the design) etc. The designing team is dedicated to creating new, unique and innovative designs on a short notice and as per the client's requirement. It is one of the forte NSM takes pride in.
